One of these days we’re going to write a book, so we don’t want to give away TOO many details now, but Rebel Crumb is a love story.

Ed and I met in the fall of 2018.  From the very beginning we knew we both knew that we’d found our person.  And we wanted to be together.  We have 6 kids, 2 cats and a dog between us, and forming a family and a home has been….a lot more wonderful that I ever could have imagined.  Don’t get me wrong - it’s not easy, but we wouldn’t change it for the world.

The MacDillon Empire

Ed has a long restaurant career, and Sarah was working in sales and interior design.  And we both love to cook and bake and feed people.  In February 2020 Ed left his job to start a cake shop, and then Covid 19 hit, and the world shut down.  It wasn’t the circumstances you’d choose for starting a new business, but we didn’t let it stop us.  We took advantage of the time together and with the kids.  Sarah started drawing and painting again, and started taking commissions for custom portraits.  Ed started drawing and painting too.  We tested recipes.  We taught ourselves to make croissants from scratch, the way Ed and I had eaten them in Paris.

We made cakes, some for customers, and a lot for us.  We made cakes until the kids refused to help eat them anymore.  Obviously we needed another outlet.  The wonderful Thornton Farmer’s Market provided the opportunity we needed.  It started slow, but once people tasted Ed’s homemade treats, they started coming back every week.  The next month, we were able to get a place at the Alliston Farmer’s Market as well, and that’s when things really started to get interesting.

The last few months of 2020 have kept us very busy, and the market season peaked with 64 pie Thanksgiving week, and Monster Fest in Downtown Alliston on October 31st which is also our daughters birthday.  So much fun!  We are very grateful more the amazing December and even better start to the new year.
